Some comments from our Visitors' Book

Although most of our guests are French, the majority of the comments here are from English visitors because the translation was easier!

If, over the years, we've continued to put up references, it's partly because so many of our clients have become our friends. But just as importantly we know perfectly well that it's easy for us to make grandiose claims about ourselves, but what counts for you is the truth. There's no better way of sharing that than to put up here what our past and present clients say about us. So, starting at the latest - read on.

From 2000 to 2005
The first five years.

2009

Despite a rainy Easter weekend, Ian and Jacquie made the sun shine for us. Their well judged advice, whether about where to eat or where to visit allowed us to leave with wonderful memories of the Correze.

A whole convoy of "Little Bretons" are sure to be coming to see you next year, so this is less "goodbye" than "see you again". If ever your footsteps lead you to lose yourself in the Auvergne, come and see us...Cécile and Lionel 63xxx

Last year in 2008

Well what can we say? This is the first time staying at a 'Sawdays' and that couldn’t mean much. How wrong we were. This place is just fantastic. Ian and Jacquie treated us as paying friends not customers. The food was exceptional the accommodation excellent and Ian and Jacquie wonderful hosts. This was the standard from arriving early right through until we left. We now understand what Sawdays is but are concerned that the rest will be able to maintain the high standards Ian and Jacquie have set and we now expect! George & Angela - Shropshire

Jacquie and Ian are most generous hosts. The Gite is spotlessly clean, very comfortable, and Oh joy!! Proper English feather pillows! We enjoyed a wonderful dinner, using fresh local/home made ingredients and lively conversation.
A very pleasant stay, and we'll be more than happy to recommend to our friends and to come back if we're in the region again. Prue & Pete - Sandy Beds

We have had a wonderful time - as we knew we would - and are hopefully starting a great tradition of visits by Kings! With lots of love and thanks. AnniB, Miles, Alice and Susie (who have already booked a return trip!)

Yup, in 2007 too!

We have enjoyed our stay very much. Thank you for the welcome, the comfortable room and super food. It's been our first visit to this area and hopefully not our last. Rosemary & Harold - Leeds.

Thank you for a splendid welcome to your home. The food and accommodation were of a very high standard. We could have stayed longer!
We will certainly return of we pass through the area again and will recommend Ian and Jacquie to one and all. Olive and Ray. - Notts

I just want to let you know that Sylvia, Mark, Allison, and I thoroughly enjoyed our short stay at your B&B. It certainly was a highlight of our terrific 2-week tour of France. My family continues to sing the praises of our wonderful dinner with you. Thank you for such a memorable experience.

If Sylvia and I ever get the opportunity to return to France, La Souvigne will definitely be on our itinerary.Ron & Sylvia, Mark & Alison M. Winsconsin USA.

The friendliest place we've ever stayed in, very comfortable and the food was superb. Thank you for a great holiday. Sue & Frank T-S - Surrey.

Three very pleasant days in lovely countryside and with the host and hostess 'les plus sympathiques' imaginable. Thank you Jacquie and Ian for a memorable stay at La Souvigne - we will be back. Tony & Ann R. St Helens.

and ten years on - in 2005

We'd like to thank you for a lovely stay. Great Shower! Lovely hospitality. We felt very welcome. Addicted to your "Reine-Claude" (greengage jam). Take care and thank you. Mandyleigh, Gary & Damaris, Kent.

Both nights of our stay have been a big and enjoyable part of our holiday. Ian and Jacquie are wonderful hosts who produce exquisite food that accompanies their good conversation. A beautiful location in the Corrèze, I'm sure we'll be back. A bientot. Paul & Sarah B. - Surrey.

 and in 2004

"Wonderful company, wonderful food - Wonderful!!" Margaret & Derek, Cheshire UK.

"Four years ago, we came for the first time, and now it's our 7th visit! Chez Ian & Jacquie, perfection reigns. Everything is wonderful, to the point that we warmly recommend this address to everyone we meet. Thank you both - we're looking forward to our 8th visit!" Jean-Michel & Brigitte - Hagenau. (Yup, we even seem to please the French as well- IMH).

 in 2003

"Thank you for being such an inspiration and helping us to think through our future possibilities. The meal was dream." Kayte & Richard. (now near neighbours and good friends)

"We relaxed completely, wallowing in fine food, convivial and intelligent company and wonderful surroundings. What possessed us to book only one night" Helen, Tim & Jamie ("Lovely Tomato Soup"!), Oxfordshire. UK.

"Your kindness and thoughtfulness made this an unforgettable stay. Thank you for the splendid meal and your hard work, but as you say 'Life is hard in Paradise'!" Michael & Edna R. Romsey UK.

"Our two day visit was far too short and our next stay will surely be longer. Hospitality and ambiance were wonderful. The meals and service were outstanding. We wish you both many years of continued success." Val & Tony, Suffolk UK

2001

"Thank you for the warm welcome, hospitality and good advice on local restaurants and attractions. This was easily the nicest, best kept, and most welcoming place to stay we've found in France, and at the best price too. Thanks!" Mike & Joyce B. Massachusetts USA

"We're lost for words! Such a warm welcome - we felt at home immediately and really appreciated the things that make a stay so very special - the tour around the vegetable garden, the crème de cassis to put in our cheap sparkly stuff (I HAD to do something, it would have been ghastly otherwise - IMH)! It's just been an absolute pleasure to be here. The cleanest most pleasant room, a refreshing shower, a lovely breakfast, the huge bed! Thank you so much for a very enjoyable and memorable experience. We hope to see you again in the not too distant future. Au revoir." Angie & Jon M, Leeds UK.

2000

"We came with high expectations which were exceeded on all fronts. Excellent accommodation - superb food. The warm welcome of Ian and Jacquie made our six day stay a delight in what was our first visit to this beautiful area of France." - Alan & Melva M, Tony & Rita H. Norfolk. UK.

"We really enjoyed our stay in La Souvigne - but we do have some complaints!
The food was so good that we ate more of it than would have been wise, the room was too nice for 200F a night and the weather was far too good for October!
Thanks for the warm welcome." Jimmy & Katerina B. Germany

 1999

"A delightful experience - loved the company, the food and the charming and wonderfully comfortable accommodation - will recommend La Souvigne to all our friends in Terra Australis" Judith & Jonathan.

"Delightful room and absolutely charming company. Helpful beyond the call of duty. Thank you so much." Jo-anne, Stephanie and Dominique.

 in 1998

"Even better than the guide book. Food, wine, company, comfort all sublime. What more can I say." Elinor & Bob

"When studying 'the book' at home this was the place we proclaimed as a 'must'! We are most certainly not disappointed. Everything is just wonderful, and you have both been so kind and helpful. We do so hope to return for a longer stay - very soon." Valerie and Alan S. Suffolk UK.

And from 1997

"We have just spent an unforgettable week at Ian & Jacquie's, thanks to an exceptionally warm welcome, their kindness, all their careful attention to detail, and above all .... their cooking. Many, many thanks for all these. We were just as delighted by the Corrèze, its countryside and the rich flora and fauna. All this means that we will remember "La Souvigne" as a little corner of paradise. Bravo, Ian, Bravo Jacquie! You're the tops!! Jacques & Marie-Reine D Tours, France.

One from 1996

"On a miserably wet 21st May 1996 we were biking through a little village called Forgès whereupon through the drizzle appeared a man who asked whether we would like to look at his rooms. It was like a miracle, my dream of a steaming hot bath and a delicious cottage pie came true. Thank you very much for everything and for making Robbi's evening by allowing him to watch the football." Liz & Robbi H. Dentlaag, Holland.

We opened in 1995 so ....

"Not a detail could be faulted! A beautiful setting for a meal to be remembered. Thank you so much for your welcome." Ann & Michael W. Essex. UK.

"A fantastic experience! Wonderful people, wonderful accommodation, wonderful food - need we say more (yes, say it again, IMH) We most certainly will return." Wally & Pauline H. Bournemouth UK.
